"Humanism is an ethical outlook based on reason and our common humanity, recognising that moral values are properly founded on human nature and experience alone.

The British Humanist Association helps non-religious people to live their lives with integrity. It provides advice, and accredited officiants who will conduct ceremonies, for those who wish to mark rites of passage, such as births, marriages and deaths, without hypocrisy. It campaigns for the rights of non-religious people, and publicly represents their philosophy and ethical concerns. It supports members with newsletters, social events, and conferences.

In education, it campaigns for objective, fair and balanced teaching about ethics and beliefs, and reform of the law on collective worship. It provides educational resources (including speakers) to support inclusive moral and religious education, and publishes non-religious perspectives on contemporary ethical questions. Humanism is represented on some SACREs and appears in some RE syllabuses and in the non-statutory national framework for RE (QCA, 2004).
