"The World Congress of Faiths works to develop understanding, co-operation and respect between people of different faiths.
Teachers find that all the activities of the WCF can be helpful but RE teachers, in particular, have found the lecture seminars in conjunction with Birkbeck College, London, especially helpful. These usually take place in the winter (December and February) on a Saturday or Saturday and Sunday. Because of the impartial approach but insistence of respect for all faiths these can be particularly helpful in developing understanding of issues.
Teachers in training have particularly benefited from the opportunities to have exposure to other faiths, through visits and retreats.
The journal Interreligious Insight, a journal of dialogue and engagement helps keep teachers in touch with inter faith issues and the newsletter One Family advises on forthcoming events in the UK inter faith scene.
Two books published by WCF of particular interest to education are All in Good Faith (£7.99) which is a resource book with explanation of difficulties and ways of responding appropriately on prayer and worship. Also for Sixth form and higher Testing the Global Ethic (£11.99) which explores significant agreements and important differences of emphasis in the ethical teaching of the world's religions.
Students can ask for concessionary rates otherwise membership is £30 pa or the journal only £24 to individuals but £40 to institutions including schools.
