National RE Subject Review |
|
|
Subscribers to the REC newsletter will know that Dr Janet Orchard has been appointed as Project Manager for the National RE Subject
Review, which the REC is leading.
The
REC's Curriculum, Assessment and Qualifications Committee, now chaired by Mike
Castelli, will have an additional role from now onwards. It will be the Steering Committee for the
Review and Janet will report on progress to its members. The Committee will, of course, continue to
report to the REC Board and seek its endorsement and approval for the
management of the project. At the Committee's meeting on Tuesday 11th July, Janet proposed names for people to serve on the small ‘Expert Panel' for
Phase 1 of the Review. This panel will
produce a background report to set the context for Phase 2 by drawing on
written and oral evidence, as suggested by the Scoping Report. An outline and overview of the
process can be found here. |

Review of RE in England: Scoping Report |
|
|
The RE Council is initiating a review of
religious education in England to run parallel to the government's review of
the National Curriculum, as part of its strategic plan.
The REC appointed John and Linda Rudge to
carry out a scoping exercise for such a review. This has set out the possible
parameters for the review in terms of timing, coverage, management,
consultation with the subject and wider community and so on. The audience for the report was the REC Board
and its Curriculum Assessment and Qualifications Committee. These have now taken forward the review
process based on many of the recommendations in the Scoping Report.
