Category

The RE Council of England and Wales has a membership of some fifty organizations. Together they reflect a national collaborative network comprising different professional interests and faith perspectives (all the principal religions of the UK, along with humanists).

They share a common commitment to a richer provision for RE which will ensure deeper understanding and discernment in beliefs and values throughout the educational system.

Five of its member organisations cover different Subject Association constituencies:

  • NATRE National Association of Teachers of RE - the subject association for RE teachers, a partner organisation with RE Today Services
  • AULRE Association of University Lecturers in Religion and Education – linking academics across higher education engaged in ITT, CPD and research in all aspects of RE
  • AREIAC Association of RE Inspectors, Advisers and Consultants – supporting local authority, diocesan and independent advisers for RE
  • NASACRE National Association of Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education - supporting SACREs in each Local Authority throughout the country
  •  Shap working party on Education in Religions - for authoritative information and advice relating to religion globally

The many other REC member organisations are also engaged in providing support for RE in complementary ways, some specific to one religion and others to a particular aspect of the subject. They are also each accessible on the main REC website.
